
These grave markers are of enslaved persons who had no last names.
These markers are from the earlier black cemetery in downtown Savannah,
and were haphazardly removed en masse to the newly opened Laurel Grove
South Cemetery when it was founded in 1853.
A good example of the iron work at Laurel Grove South
The William Campbell family plot is surrounded by a style
of ornate ironwork common at Laurel Grove. While largely intact, the iron
is rusting and needs preservation.
